2010 - Thank you! We did it!
Huge thanks to the voters who braved the cold! As I understand it, we won every polling station yesterday. What an honour! And you gave the City a strong statement that it is time to replace the bridge and move forward. Thank you Victoria!
Vic News wrote, "...candidate Marianne Alto won her seat on council by a wide margin. Alto distinguished herself from the other 10 candidates as the only one firmly in support of the city's bridge replacement plans. She received 4,529 votes, representing 29,43 per cent."
Vancouver Sun wrote, "Marianne Alto faced down a well-financed campaign by businessman Barry Hobbis to win a seat on Victoria council Saturday night... from almost the first poll in, Alto grabbed the lead and increased it steadily."
I also want to thank my family and everyone who supported my campaign. I had a wonderful team of young people and people I have volunteered with for years. Everyone made such incredible contributions of time and ideas.
Finally I just want to say that I am humbled by the support: the Mayor, City Councillors, MPs, MLAs, Labour, the business community, young people, seniors, thank you. Now let's get to work!
